Beira Airport - Mozambique

Beira Airport is a commercial airport in Beira, Mozambican. It has three asphalt runways, connecting the mainland and the island of Mozambique and also allowing for international flights to be taken from any major international airport. The airport was originally built by the Portuguese and became operational in the 1960s.

Airline facilities include the International Airport, Domestic Airport and the International Terminal have a separate terminal building. The airport is connected to the rest of the Mozambican countryside with a highway that runs parallel to the airport road. The airport has a wide range of hotels and motels and some are serviced by private vehicles. The airport has the main terminal building and there is also a small terminal attached to the main airport.

The Beira International Airport was constructed to allow for international flights to be taken to any of the major cities in Africa. The airport was opened by former president, Joao Goulart. The airport is situated on the coast in the town of Beira and it is one mile from the mainland and about half a mile from the airport's runway. The airport has direct flights from many countries in Africa including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Zambian, Seychelles and Tanzania.

The international airport was constructed to the south of the main terminal building. The airport serves both domestic flights as well as international flights which include some flights to the African continent.

Beira is popular for its beaches and it is easy to access the beaches from the airport, even for visitors who may not have an air ticket. There is a ferry that crosses the Indian Ocean which provides direct access to the beaches but it is advisable to book a seat on this boat so that you can enjoy the beautiful sight of the Indian Ocean.
